In The Absence OF Gravity

Well, better late than never. Last week I finally put one of my New Years resolutions into practice and started visiting the swimming pool once a week.
Now the purpose of this wasn’t to learn how to swim, rather to improve my relatively poor swimming technique. Also, I needed to teach myself how to tread water. (for those unfamiliar with this phrase, that’s staying in the same place without going under and subsequently drowning.)

Happily for me, the implementation of this aim to thread water is working. I feel my breathing improving and my swimming stroke becoming quite refined, or so other people tell me.

With this under way, that leaves two of my resolutions left, (as many of you know, I keep a Diary and each year I give myself three things to do, attempt or overcome) and while one is an ongoing thing about my personal outlook, the other I intend to start in June. So watch this space and hopefully the idea of the New Years resolution as, broken promises of an unachievable idealism, will be shattered.

Hopefully, in the dead silence of an empty swimming pool and in the absence of gravity, a promise to try shall prevail.

Starting Again.

When It Rains

The scent rises like no other,
A citrus freshness echoing endearing daffodils.
Pulsating Spring laughs in the face of old Winter,
Sometimes youth takes wisdom for granted.
But could it be any other way?

Bitter, Biting rain drops fade,
A vintage past its prime.
Replaced by an effervescent Champagne,
Dispelled by an impetuous cloud.

Secluded, in a blossoming park
I am camouflaged by colour.
Spring, the young heart of any aging body
A new beginning allows the shedding of the past.
A new face brings the banishment of an old mask.

The joys of Paddy's day

Alas, its been a long weekend and one must state that paddy's day celebrations tend to leave the body lacking energy. However, I wouldn't have it any other way. While it was a working holiday, for me anyway, being a barmaid did allow for it to be just that ... as I thoroughly enjoyed working (excluding the odd fecker who's set to disrupt every good night).

I sprayed my hair green and had a fantastic night around my intoxicated companions, inspite of my sobriety. Being a barmaid is a great way to have fun whilst getting payed... how fantastic is that.

I think the best thing about St Patricks day would have to be the fact that it lasts, not one day, but usually three or four. So on the last night of this weekend binge, we (staff and customers) had a lock-in in our bar and hid from the world till the dawn broke the night- over indulging in the green cocktail known as fat frogs... all free of charge. (just hook it to my vains). And who could forget the Irish tradition known as 'the circle of talent' - guaranteed embarrassment for all involved. (my self included- I think I crowed some ballad or other but memory is still hazy.)

so to summarize... I confess to being being completely intoxicated this weekend, which ,to the rest of the world, means that im an alcoholic but to those from the Emerald Isle, it just means that im a social drinker who likes to have a few.

ahh culture, it's a fantastic thing.

well that's it for my first post, still not certain about the longevity of such a craze, but fingers crossed.

In the beginning...

Well, it seems that "blogging" has become a new trend. Its longevity however, remains to be seen. Will it be as timeless as the yoyo, or another flash in the pan like Subuteo soccer or Furbies. Who knows !!! Not being one to judge things(yeah right) I decided to give it a go and examine the merits of such a craze.

I have sat a wondered for a while on what sort of material this blog would exhibit, and come to the conclusion that variety is the spice of life. Therefore, I hope to use this new avenue of creation to explore both the mundane and the extraordinary.

i.e I don't know what Im going to use this space for just yet, so its a free for all at the moment.

let the games commence
